iPhone it up to the bar seating area where I was able to watch all the food come out for a very crowded place all their food looks absolutely fantastic. Ham and cheese omelette with hash browns that I had was fantastic I can't wait to come back and try the cinnamon French toast.

Bacon, cheese and onion Omelette was very dry. Tasted more like a pancake than an omelette. Server explained that that is how they are prepared here. They do not do "eggy" omelettes here. I sent mine back. My wife had French toast with poached eggs. The eggs were fine but the French toast was cold. She ate part of it but didn't enjoy it. This place was not our taste. We will not return.

We use to frequent because the food was good as was the service. Recently they are forgetting things in their carry outs such as syrup with a pancake or jelly with toast. It use to be only every now and then, now it's constant. And the food is usually cold by the time I get home I'm 5 minutes away and always early to pick up my food. When you call to complain that they forgot something they argue and blame it on you the consumer. Having worked in restaurants for over 10 years. Not exactly good customer service. You just lost long time regular customers.

Smaller than I remembered, Gest is a diner-styled restaurant in a local strip mall. I think of it as a place to brunch, conveniently located near my friend's childhood home. Despite its name, it offers more than breakfast; its lunch menu includes sandwiches and salads. The breakfast menu caters to all appetites with omelettes available with one, two or three eggs. Additionally, guests can create their own from an extensive list of ingredients. A variety of Eggs Benedicts are available, as are popular breakfast platters. I was in the mood for the Country Omelette, where sausage, onions, cheese and lettuce were folded into 2 eggs. It was topped with a healthy-sized serving of country gravy. The lettuce added freshness to the heavy meal and the combination was good. Less good were the side of hash browns and country biscuit. The hash browns had a mashed potato consistency with a hard (almost stale-like) crust. I was very disappointed by what should have been a diner staple. The biscuit was literally hard to swallow; it was so dry that I only had a few bites. This says a lot since I love country biscuits. I also sampled the pancake which was delicious. While I am a serviceable at-home cook, I'm terrible at making pancakes so I appreciate them even more. Service was prompt and efficient.

Two stars for welcoming, attentive, polite service & staff. Clean restaurant. (The backs of the booths are stiff, stick out & not very comfortable, I'd suggest a table instead.) No stars for breakfast. Omelettes were rubbery and tasteless. Bacon was half-raw, half-burnt. Sausage had peculiar taste, similar to what the airlines used to serve - yuck. Potatoes were sliced, not traditional but they were ok. Cheap grocery store-like bread for toast. On the other hand, there are many chains like Ram's Horn, Denny's...that serve equally gross food so, perhaps, it's simply personal taste. So, if you like that type of breakfast, you prob like this place. However, we prefer the breakfasts served at the local coney islands, Stage Deli in West Bloomfield, Plaza Deli in Southfield and even McDonalds is better, imo. Of course, all these places serve unhealthy, fattening food. (Many do offer "healthy alternatives" but, if we wanted healthy, we'd stay home -- which we usually do, eating breakfast out only a few times a year mostly while vacationing.) Note: One thing I don't like is when a server starts removing dishes while guests are still eating: My husband was finishing his toast and he had to stop and lean back because the server wanted all the dishes. I'm assuming that they didn't know better and would never embarrass someone by saying anything; but, if someone from the restaurant reads this, maybe they will do a better job training the staff.

Ehhhh, their omelettes are weird. All the ingredients are there and the taste is there, but it's the way they are made. The eggs seemed baked and have an odd texture. The omelette ingredients are not cooked in with the egg, they're just all folded in the middle. And a lot of their omelettes come with lettuce in them. Say what?

I had really high hopes for this place by the name of the restaurant alone. The waitress was super friendly and despite the morning rush, we were seated right away. You can customize your omelette or choose from the wide variety of custom omelettes that they already offer. I'm not sure how the omelettes are prepared, but despite its fluffy consistency, my omelette fell flat. I was expecting a traditional omelette, but that's not what I got. Don't get me wrong, it was hot, had all the ingredients I asked for, and the veggies were fresh. It also came with a big side dish for dipping into their yummy sauces. I just didn't like the way the omelette was prepared. I think I will give this place another shot and hopefully find something that I can fall in love with!

Gest Omelettes is named perfectly; after it's noteworthy omelettes. Picture the fluffiest eggs stuffed with unique options, topped with homemade sauces and served next to lettuce and your choice of toast. In addition to their outstanding omelettes, Gest serves up an array of AM food choices from breakfast nachos to carrot cake pancakes. Although I find it difficult to look past the "Gest Omelettes" portion of the menu, they also have many lunch options including sandwiches and salads as well as some delicious sweets to finish off any meal with. The decadent specialty omelettes come in three different sizes and range in price from $6.95 to $8.25. I am obsessed with the #8 vegetarian. I get the 1 egg with hashbrowns and multi-grain toast. It is stuffed with mushroom, green pepper, green onion, avocado, artichoke, swiss cheese and bernaise sauce... incredible! You can get a variety of sandwiches for less than $7.25 and a full order of all types of fancy pancakes for $6.50 and under. The bottom line is... a lot of bang for your buck at Gest. You will leave full with some money left in your wallet. Gest is small and decorated with a simple, country chic feel. You are guaranteed to experience friendly service; everyone is really friendly. Whatever your preference is, they will get you in and out or let you stick around awhile and enjoy!

Honestly I enjoyed the food... please note this place is a little pricey but of course you pay for what you are getting. The portion are BIG and/or maybe i'm just greedy because i ordered 3 egg omelette; hey it's was 20 cent more for 1 egg, why not. This location seem to be very "low key" to me and with a chain restaurant down the plaza - it seems to be a hole in the way spot. Please note there's nothing fancy about this place but the wait staff is nice and the tables were clean. I highly suggest - getting larger plates if you're going to server large portion; this could've been 5 star review.

The hubby and I have dined here twice mainly because he and my father in-law love it and wanted me to experience it as well. I was pleasantly surprised. We have had the omelettes, the corned beef hash, and the standard breakfast platters. Everything was good, I like how the eggs are never overdone which is a problem I have at most breakfast places. But my favorite are the potatoes. They are quarter sized and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside so you can really taste the potatoes-SO GOOD!! The hubby loves the corned beef hash which can easily feed 2-3 people. We always take some home and he is more than happy to snack on it for the rest of the day. A must-try place for breakfast people!!

This is one of my new favorite breakfast spots! The food is great. I LOVE the aloha omelette. The staff is always friendly and you can definitely tell that they enjoy working there. The bussers, waitresses, cooks & hostess all work together to make sure you have a great experience. Even when there is a wait, during the busiest time of day... They have an excellent table-turnover rate and we have never waited longer than 10 minutes to sit down. Our food is always fresh and comes out very fast! Highly recommended !!!

A good breakfast place. It might seem pricy but my kids and wife all love the selections and the overall quality. It can be a bit of a wait for a table but worth it.

Great options for a healthy breakfast and it tastes amazing! This is my favorite breakfast place in the area, I bring all my friends and family here when they come to visit.

I got the World War I. Could have been better. I'm really picky about corned beef hash. I have been to a few places that know how to cook it just right. Not the case here. I usually get an omelette and always like them. They are huge and fill you up just eating half. The Aloha is really good. Ask for both sauces on the side. Yum. The person I was with got the monte cristo and she said it tasted good.

There is not a better omelette shop in the area. Consistently good, always fresh, quality ingredients . . . What more could you want? Love love love the country omelette with sausage gravy and no onions. ALWAYS have them hold the lettuce (still ant figure why they put lettuce under the omelettes, but it's super easy to say "hold the lettuce"). They even have raisin toast!

Phenomenal polish omelette, sausage, onion, Swiss and the fluffiest eggs I've ever eaten. My daughter asked them to make her a sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich and they hit it out of the park! Very pleasant server, clean nice atmosphere, we will be back again and again!

This was our first time at Gest Omelettes. Maybe because our waitress was new to the job (and didn't suggest we order our omelettes with sauce) or because we simply didn't know what to expect--but we thought it was the worst breakfast ever. Agree with the reviewer who compared the omelette/crepe to styrofoam; it was so dry it was almost inedible. On the plus side, the hash browns were good as was the service. We think of ourselves as adventurous eaters and we wanted to like it, but we will not return.

Gest Omelettes has been one of my favorite breakfast spots for about 10 years now. The staff is very friendly. Despite being busy they get you in quickly and take good care of you. Their menu is incredible... creative breakfast options that will leave you scratching your head over what to choose. My most recent visit I ordered the Eggs Aspen. An English muffin with a poached egg, avocado, tomato, and hollandaise sauce. On the side I splurged and got a Chocolate Chip Pancake. It was sort of the perfect breakfast. The Eggs Aspen was delicious, very messy, and gave me the morning energy boost I needed. I savored every bite. The side chocolate chip pancake was big and although not the best I ever had, there wasn't a bite left so can't complain. If you feel like creating your own omelette with more options than bacon and cheese - this is a great place to try. They have capers you can add! And pineapple! In your omelette! If you need breakfast for dessert I noticed they have pumpkin and carrot cake pancakes as well. I don't think you'll leave here disappointed!

Based on the food alone I would give this place 3-4 stars. It's okay, nothing great. The service, however, made this a very unpleasant experience. I ordered an egg white omelet, my wife ordered a regular omelet. We were told that my omelet would take a little longer since they "fluff" the egg whites. Allright, how much longer could it be? Well, a half hour later, after I watched other people who were seated after us get served, we still didn't have our omelets. When I finally complained I was told that my omelet was ready, they were just waiting for my wife's omelet to finish. Ten minutes later my omelet was finally delivered and we were informed that they lost the ticket for my wife's order. I ended up waiting for her order to arrive (which they got wrong) before we could eat. This place was pretty crowded, which is surprising given the number of poor reviews. Needless to say, we won't be going back.

Food was ok, service was left to be desired. Our server checked on us once after our food came and did not refill our drinks. The one in Redford (unsure if they're the same or not) is much better and worth the drive in my opinion.

  • Ashley H.

The food was average at best. I think if Gest had a better atmosphere it would help overlook the not-so-great omelets. Come on, when omelet is in your name, you expect the omelets to at least be alright tasting. Back to the atmosphere, it's very bright/over lit, crowded and overall feels too open. I wouldn't choose to eat here again.

On a chance my friend and I stopped by for a quick breakfast. I was really happily surprised. The staff was friendly and really on top of things. The food all tasted really fresh. I felt the place was clean and well kept. And the sauces were saucy and great and the omelettes were so amazingly creative as well. We had the fiesta omelette and the ops omelette and really enjoyed both. The ingredients were well picked and very good. I liked that you could pick how many eggs you wanted in the omelette up front - it saved my stomach from being over full. But best of all, the hidden gem, was the sausage gravy and biscuits. So amazingly incredible. Wow. Definitely try it out!

I've been going to this place for years. They truly have the best combination of omelettes and there GOOD :). There priced accordingly and service is good. I've also ordered pancakes and there delicious also. One my favorite breakfast places.

I'm honestly SHOCKED that Gest Omelettes doesn't have a higher rating. The food is da bomb and I've had nothing but amazing service. Some of my favorites are: the multigrain, flax and walnut pancakes, vegetarian omelette, and the aspen. Also for you coffee lovers out there they give you your own pitcher of coffee that you can fill up, thanks for the energy guys!

Overrated. Omelets are not that great and there's always a huge line. Portions are huge, but that's about it.

This is "The" breakfast place in the area. None come close or compare to the amazing menu and quality. I've been going here for the occasional weekend breakfast since it opened in '96. I'll admit it does get busy during the weekend and you may have to wait, but what do you expect? Their omelettes are great and have a vast selection, if you are extremely picky then you can always create your own. I love non-franchise restaurants, they usually consist of people who are not upholding a rediculous code for their customer service. Cindy the owner is great, she and the cooks make almost everything in house (their hollandase sauce is the best) and definitely enhances the overall taste in their food.

The omelets were good but they were dry I like omelets that are moist and melt in your mouth. The coffee was Terrible and should not be searved, I'm sorry to say the waittress didn't come around to fill water or anything. Sorry but I will not be coming back.

Avoid, Avoid, Avoid!!!! Went here on Easter Sunday with friends and ordered a "Gest" omelet, complete with low grade meat, and stuffed with lettuce??? Not to mention, this place was expensive for a two-egg Omelette with a coffee &10.60 not including tip!

    (1)
  • Lawrence R.

Not as great as described. Portions are huge, The omletts are good, but often have too much of one and not enough of others. I called ahead for carryout and allowed an extra 5 minutes on top of what they told me... Ended up waiting for 10 minutes once arriving at the restraunt. Very expensive for what you get.

As the name suggests Gest specializes in Omelettes, we had the Farmers & the Spanish Version. The Omelettes are very large & full of fillings & are cooked almost in the manner of Crepes & are available in 1 or 2 egg size. Served with Toast. The coffee served is very bland & doesn't add to the experience but the Omelettes are above average in terms of quality, however i downgraded to 3 star as the Spanish was really quite bland including the Salsa served with it. My Wife's Farmers omelet was full of Ham & looked & tasted quite decent.Service was prompt & super friendly, perhaps even a tad too friendly for early Sunday morning. Plenty of parking & Seating

So I recently went back to Gest Omelettes and as much as I would like to give it another star I just can't. The service was atrocious, albeit entertaining to listen to. The waitress was complaining about her job, how she needs a vacation, screaming at the cooks, etc.. Funny, but our food sat on the hot plate as a result of her hissy fit. I would have bumped it up to 4 stars for the corned beef hash, but my eggs were too runny and that whole thing with the waitress. The corned beef hash was excellent, not like the canned hormell you get served most other places. It was American fries as hash, with real shredded corned beef, terrific, but order them well done or the potatoes will be slightly raw. So, after two visits I am able to secure the 3 star rating. It's "alright" for a breakfast spot but there are certainly better places around.

This place has the best omelettes in the city. I've never had such an great selection of gourmet omlettes to choose from.

A friend took me here for breakfast and little business before the day began. I will be back, because it is everything you want in a breakfast place. Great Coffee! Not "Bigbucks" coffee, Real coffee. Complete breakfast menu, I am a sucker for Eggs Benedict with hash browns and bacon. I know, so why didn't I have an Omelette, Dah? Next Time! Waitress was right out of "Central Casting" and the manager was a Hoot. I didn't pick up the check, but prices were very fair.

I am NOT an egg lover. I've tried scrambled, deviled, omelettes, and have yet to find one I really like; but I can't get enough of Gest Omelettes. It is the only restaurant where I enjoy eating eggs. Their omelettes are excellent, and it is probably because the eggs are buried in a mountain of potatoes, cheese, sausage, and gravy! The eggs are really just a carrier for greasy goodness. My favorites are the Country and the Farmer's. In addition to the excellent omelettes, Gest has a full menu for breakfast and lunch. They have a large variety of breakfast combos, and typical diner fare. I've never had a meal here that disappointed me. Service is relatively friendly, and very fast. This is a great spot for a hangover breakfast or a quick lunch break and the prices are reasonable too. Keep in mind this is just a diner, but for what it is Gest is great!!

The French toast is amazing. *Update to previous Yelper review - Gest now takes credit cards. Yes, there is typically a wait, so my husband and I like to go a little later about an hour or two before they close. In warm weather it's not so bad having to wait because you can take a stroll along the strip mall or sit on the bench. In winter you have to claim an awkward space at the congested front area or go to the back near the coat rack where they have a few chairs set up. We've opted to sit at the bar a couple of times to avoid the wait. Not ideal if you don't want to see all that goes on, but can be entertaining. The omelettes are excellent. I didn't think that I liked fluffy/dry omelettes, but as long as I get cheese it is much more enjoyable. I highly recommend trying one if you haven't. The service is always on their game. They seem to make a great team. One reason I didn't give Gest a 5 star review, (and this may seem silly), but they need bigger cups. They serve drinks in small plastic cups that remind me of the cafeteria at church camp. Ok, I am ready to go to Gest on Sunday!

Was there last year. The owner lady was quite unlady like. Very very very poor customer service, rude and unprofessional. When the owner has so much ego you know that customers will never be top priority, profits, money and filling the place up seem to be the biggest concern, yet, with focus on those things and ignoring what make her business tick, I am wondering how long these guys will last..

The waitress brought a pitcher of coffee for the table! That in itself is awesome. The veggie omelette with ranchero sauce was fantastic as well. Wait what? Is that 'I will survive' playing on the radio? Yes it is. Perfect.

We've eaten hear for years and always had a fantastic omelette for breakfast/lunch. The omlettes are more on the gourmet side than most are used to but that's the attraction, not your same old ham and cheese run of the mill stuff. I love the "Popeye" Special that's filled with spinach and Swiss cheese and covered in Bearnaise sauce. This is the best egg dish I have ever had! They have three size omelettes, crepe, two egg and three egg, lettuce is served on most but try it it's one of the things that makes this a standout along with the incredible airy/fluffy texture. I would love to hear of someone having a better omelette anywhere.

    (5)
  • John W.

They have huge omelettes here! I learned from other Yelpers that there is another location on Plymouth Road in Redford. The omelettes take a little while longer to prepare than most you experience because they are baked and get really airy and fluffy! The other thing is a lot of their omelettes have shredded lettuce in them which at first I thought "gross!!" but once I had one I was like "sweet, that works!". Its awesome. If only I were more of a morning person, I would be visiting Gest Omelettes more often. They make a truly unique omelette you should try at least once.

I love this place! I have been going there since I was 4 and I am always enjoying my food. The staff is always very kind and tries to help you. The place is always packed, especially on Sunday mornings! Everything I've had here is great. They have classics (Pancakes, eggs, French Toast, etc.) and they have stuff you can't get some other places (Sunny French Toast, Eggs Benedict, grilled cinnamon roll, grits, etc.). I have never gone here and not been happy.

  • Raquel P.

I came here because of great reviews. I was very disappointed. I ordered a simple Ham and Cheese Omelette. When I got it at first it looked very good the Egg was fluffy, but then I took a fork to it and the Ham looked like dog food and tasted like low quality the cheese did not taste right, my dads Omelette did not look right or good at all. I not recommend eating here. Tasted like microwave crap....no freshness except for the egg. Omelettes should not be to pricy but trust me they are over priced and for the quality of the food so not worth it I been to other places around town that makes there food fresh and is very good and still has great prices! I'm not paying for school food! The Place is not very clean and if if its not clean what is behind the kitchen door? The service was friendly I will give it that. But the atmosphere reminds me of old grandma and seemed like when I was there the clients were older. This place is in a serious need of an update. I been to dives but there is a fine line between DIVES and OUTDATED and this place is very outdated, restraints being outdated does not always annoy me if the food is bad and it's not clean....sorry but not on my places to eat!

2.5 star rating 25 reviews Service was bad. Booths were full, so sat at table. All tables were empty. Then the filled up fast and they all got served before us. Went to newberry grill 5 doors down. Awesome food, great service and great prices at newberry. Gest is arrogant nowadays

Among the worst breakfasts I've had. I didn't think it possible to create dry eggs. My spinach-mushroom-feta omelet amounted to a mess wrapped in eggs that resembled Styrofoam. The "hash browns" were like browned soggy broiled potato chips. Don't bother with this place.

I've had a lot of Omelette in my day, but I've had few that are like the Gest Omelette. This is not your mother's omelette, but is something much different and quite good. Gest has become a favorite of mine when on the west side of Detroit. Located in a strip mall, its not a place you would know about unless you know about it, and fortunately, my fiance did! First, lets deal with some of the other items that are written on Gest. Yes, the coffee is not wonderful, but it's certainly not as horrible as I've read below. I've had mixed service experiences based on how busy Gest is, but its never been bad. The servers have clearly been there a while and are familiar with the fare. The omlette is what you go to Gest for, and it doesn't let down, but it might surprise you. Yes, there is lettuce in many of the omelettes. This is enough to turn some people off. Personally, I enjoy the texture and freshness of the lettuce. The omelette is also unique in that its fluffy and baked versus pan fried as are most omelettes. This lighter and fluffier omelette is not as buttery as a traditional restaurant classic, but combined with the lettuce, it makes for a delightful flavor and texture combination. One of my favorite Omelettes is the Country Omelette which has sausage gravy over an Omelette rather than the biscuit. Smothered in gravy and stuffed with sausage and cheese, this is not for the heart healthy, but is full of flavor. I make a common mistake at Gest and often order the three or four egg omelette which is always too much to handle, and I'm not a light eater. I've also found the farmers, deli and vegetarian omelettes delicious as well! If you're not a fan of omelettes, you'll find all of your favorite breakfast meals. So, there is no shortage of options for anyone interested. This is a great meal and a terrific Omelette. Go there with an empty stomach and a bit of time, as the omelettes do not come quickly, but they do come well made and are always quite delicious!

We tried this restaurant out for breakfast today. From the very first moment, the service was unfriendly and slow. There were no helpful suggestions and snippiness when I questioned the lettuce on an omlette! I ordered a Ham and Cheese omlette and it was horrible. It had a texture more like bread and the ham tasted like spam sent through a food processor. It came with toast, but they were going to charge $1.50 for hashbrowns. My son ordered pancakes. They were huge, but didn't taste any better than bisquick pancakes. When my waitress noticed I'd only eaten two bites of my omlette, she at least apologized. She said nothing is normal there. We will not be back.

Yikes! Yuk! If you're claiming to make 'omelettes', then make 'OMELETTES", not microwave frozen pancake looking, cardboard tasting, broken & folded over scrap lox, barely a schmear of cream cheese and smothered in capers. My wife hated her vege concoction even more, and she's very forgiving! Whatever you're making, it is not an omelette and doesn't even resemble an omelette. If you're making something else, then call it something else and I'm sure it'll be good, for whatever it is. Others have complimented the french toast and it's probably delicious, but I'm not coming in to find out.

I'm not big on omelettes, but my dad is and loves this place. And he's never been disappointed in his omelette. The french toast is awesome, as is the Belgian Waffle. This is the first place that I've had Stuffed French Croissants, and I was not disappointed. It can get a little messy with the amount of marmalade they give you, but is it really suppose to stay in the croissant? The chocolate chip pancakes weren't the best I've ever had, but they were still good. On the other hand, the pumpkin pancakes were a bit disappointing. Maybe it was a fluke but I couldn't really taste the pumpkin. I really like their hash browns, of which I always get a side order. There are a few drawbacks though. 1) There's usually a wait, so get here early. I've been told that they cater to the commuting crowd, though I can't imagine a lot of people stop here for "coffee and a doughnut before work". 2) It gets pretty loud when they're busy. This isn't the place to have that important discussion with a client. 3) While they're usually nice on weekdays, the staff can get snippy sometimes, especially on busy days (every weekend morning till mid-afternoon). 4) The food takes a while to show up, even when they aren't very busy. While it's good on their part for actually making the food, be sure the people with you are entertaining conversationalists. All in all, this is a good place for going out to breakfast with the family. Get here early for less wait on weekends.

I appreciate the effort, they do have a nice selection of omelets, you can even build your own, I got the western omelet, they had a strange tasting red sauce on-top of the omelet that i just didn't care for at all, it had kind of a horseradish flavor, which I'm not a big fan of, the ham looked like it was run trough a food processor very mushy, that to had a very odd taste, sorry to say but it had the texture of catfood, which grossed me out. I've eaten western omelets all over the country, this was probably the worst one I've had. The ingredients seemed sub par. One the plus side, the staff kept my drink fulls, the egg part of the omelet was very fluffy, the eggs them self tasted good.
